Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities

We Need Your Help!

Join us for our 2024 Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Mobile Pantry in partnership with Lorain County Community College.

Second Harvest is in need of volunteers to help with our Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Mobile Pantry from a variety of shifts starting at 8am through 3pm. Volunteers will be needed for numerous tasks to ensure a successful event.

All volunteers will need to report to The Spitzer Conference Center 15 minutes prior to the start of their shift for check-in and orientation. Please see the FAQ section below to learn more!

Volunteers are a vital part of Second Harvest's strategic plan to provide nutritious meals to local children, families, and seniors in our four-county region. Every time you volunteer, you will leave knowing not only that you have helped to provide food but also HOPE for our neighbors in need.

Hurry! Volunteer Registration ends on November 9th! These volunteer opportunities will fill fast!

Volunteers will be asked to sign-up for the following areas:.

Loading Food:

Volunteers stage and load pre-packaged boxes and bags of food with other volunteers into vehicles. Must be able to lift 30lbs. Shift: 9:15am - 3:00pm

Traffic Control:

Volunteers are responsible for the pace and safety of the distribution. Volunteers will help assist with directing vehicles in and out of the distribution area. Shift: 9:15am - 3:00pm

Car Registration:

Volunteers electronically register community members attending the distribution with Second Harvest's iPads. If you are a new volunteer, Second Harvest staff will provide on-site training the day of the event. Shifts: 8am-12:30pm | 11am-3pm.

Is there an age requirement to volunteer?

Yes, you must be 16 years or older. If you are under 18, you must volunteer with a parent or guardian.

What should volunteers wear on the day of the distribution?

Each volunteer will need to dress for the weather that day. Wear weather appropriate coats, hats, gloves, and closed-toed and closed-back shoes.

Where do I check-in?

All Volunteers will need to check-in at the Ewing Physical Education & Fitness Center 15 minutes prior to the start of their shift. Staff will check you in and assign you to your station.

Where will Volunteers need to park?

Volunteers will need to enter in on the Burns Rd entrance and park in the north-end #6 campus parking lot. Please refer to the below map for exact location.

Will all volunteers be required to lift heavy boxes?

No, not all volunteer assignments require heavy lifting. Registration, traffic control, and community engagement are volunteer assignments that will not require any heavy lifting the day of the event.

Will a restroom be available to volunteers during the distribution?

Yes, an indoor volunteer restroom will be available throughout the distribution.

Will lunch or beverages be provided to all volunteers?

Yes, breaks, lunch, and beverages will be provided to all volunteers throughout the distribution.

Will there be a volunteer orientation for new volunteers?

Yes, orientation will be provided for all NEW volunteers prior to the start of the event.
