Working to Give a Season of Hope

The Holiday rush is on at Second Harvest. But we’re not talking about the best toys, store hours or shopping deals. We are looking to move out thousands of pounds of food to the 81 pantries and 44 hot meal programs that rely on us to fill their shelves. Fifty percent of those who struggle the most during the holiday season are children and seniors. We have to do all we can.

Last year, we distributed 635,000 pounds of food in December, alone. As a result, there were 16,000 families served at our partner charity food pantries and 24,000 meals served at hot meal programs. Yet, the need is still great.

Since we moved into our new home at the Nordson Food Distribution Center in June, our numbers – volunteers, re-pack, receiving, distribution – are up at least 25% in nearly every category from the start. So the rush is on, indeed. We are ready and poised to move as much food and hope to all those who are hungry this holiday season.
