We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the ability to administer The Senior Box Program, officially known as the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which is a federally funded program. There are only two counties in Northeast Ohio currently targeted for the CSFP: Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. The purpose of the CSFP is to improve the health of low-income elderly population by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA foods. We are providing 283 monthly boxes, which are 40-50 pounds each, of nutritionally complete food which will include protein, cereals, rice, fruits, vegetables, and grains. Seniors that are eligible for this program must be age 60 or older and living on no more than 130% of the Federal Poverty Level ($15,301 for one person).
Our first month of distribution to seniors was March. We are partnering with Oberlin Community Services, to distribute boxes at four sites in southern Lorain County each month, which we have identified as an underserved part of the county.
