Notes from Julie

Spring is blossoming around us, and we have been busy at Second Harvest. From working on our Creating Pathways vision for the future to Harvest for Hunger, to presenting the findings for the proposed Sandusky Community Hub, we have been abuzz with activity.

As you may have read, the increased SNAP benefits Ohio families received throughout the pandemic came to an end on March 1st, sparking serious concerns about food insecurity in our communities. While we have been preparing for this, it is devastating to families as they struggle to make their dollars stretch when prices are high and tough decisions are being made in households. We are seeing an increase in need and working together with our partner charities to connect neighbors in need to healthy food.

Spring is also the season for Harvest for Hunger. Our annual campaign is underway, and there is plenty of time for you to get involved. Whether it is saying “yes” to a donation at the grocery store checkout or running a Harvest for Hunger campaign in your workplace or with your neighbors, every dollar counts.

In closing, I want to say THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers. Volunteer Appreciation Week was in April and our special celebration for our volunteers is in May, but our heartfelt gratitude cannot be limited to just one week or one event. We simply could not do what we do without their commitment. Thank you, volunteers!
