Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger is a community-wide campaign that helps raise food and funds to help re-stock food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain counties.  The 2010 campaign has raised over $123,000!

Special thanks this year to Giant Eagle who has been our long time partner in the fight against hunger in North Central Ohio, not only donating food and grocery products but raising funds through Harvest for Hunger.  They proved once again their committment to helping those at-risk for hunger with an outstanding Check Out Hunger campaign to support Harvest for Hunger raising nearly $58,000!

The Amherst Giant Eagle store was the top store in our region, Vermilion was the top GETGO location and the new Valu-King store in Norwalk was tops for the Valu-King chain.  Outstanding!

Special thanks to Amherst Store Manager Mike Smith, Office Manager Eileen Mahilo and Front-End Manager Ryan Demich.  The top cashier for Amherst was Debbie Saltis, 2nd - Judy Cipo & 3rd - Regina Mottle.

Many Ways to Help

Workplace or School: Encourage your company to join the hundreds of others and run an employee food drive.  As a student or teacher at a local school encourage your school to get involved.  The most needed items are the "Super Six": cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables, tuna fish, soup and beef stew.

Newspaper & Local Stores: On February 28, 2010 look for the Harvest for Hunger insert in your Sunday edition of The Morning Journal, The Chronicle Telegram and Sandusky Register.  The papers will also be running ads that can be clipped out and mailed. Stop by a local Giant Eagle or Heinen's stores to make a contribution through Check Out Hunger.  Shoppers are asked to make a donation at the cash register or drop off food donations at local Giant Eagle or Heinen's stores.

Donate On Line: Financial donations can be made on-line through our website. Click Here to Donate Now!
